How to Propagate Camellias? A Detailed Introduction to Common Propagation Methods
As one of the top ten famous flowers, the camellia is the first choice for many people growing plants indoors, but a single pot often looks too monotonous, so many people grow several pots. If you don't want to buy them, you can propagate them yourself. So what propagation methods are there for camellias? Let's take a look together.

1. Seed Propagation
In autumn, harvest the fruit and place it in a ventilated spot to dry. Once the fruit naturally splits open, you can take out the seeds. At this point the seed coat is very hard, and it needs to be treated before it can germinate faster. You can cut the seed coat open with a knife or soak the seeds in water. After mixing with the seeds, cover with plastic film to prevent water loss, keep the temperature between 18-25 degrees, and ensure sufficient light while avoiding direct sunlight. Ventilate every day, and the seeds will germinate after one month. When the seedlings grow 3-4 leaves, they can be transplanted, one plant per flower pot. Place the pot in a ventilated area, water thoroughly, and after a week they will grow in the pot.
2. Cutting Propagation
Choose healthy, semi-lignified branches growing at the top of the plant, cut off a section of about 10 cm, remove the leaves at the base, and keep 2-3 leaves at the top. Take cuttings in summer and autumn. Cut and insert immediately; after inserting, press the soil firm, water thoroughly, and place in a cool, ventilated spot. Spray 1-2 times a day to prevent water loss, keep the temperature between 20-25 degrees, and gradually increase light. After 1-2 months they will take root, and then they can be transplanted into flower pots.
3. Layering Propagation
The seedlings obtained by this method are larger. The operation is also simple and it is easy to succeed, but it is not suitable for mass propagation. It can be done throughout the year, with April-June being the best time. First, select a healthy, vigorous branch on the plant, and 30-40 cm from the upper part, make a ring cut 0.5-1 cm wide, then wrap the ringed area with moist soil and tie it tightly with a plastic bag, keeping the soil moist. Once the branch has taken root, it can be separated from the mother plant and replanted.
