When to repot a clivia

When growing a clivia, if the water amount is not controlled well, it very easily causes root rot and seriously affects the plant's growth, so it must be repotted every year. When is suitable? Generally in spring and autumn, this is when the clivia has just entered its vigorous growth period, and this time is the most suitable for repotting.

I. Clivia repotting time

The clivia must be repotted every year, and it is best to repot it during vigorous growth. The hot summer and cold winter are both dormant periods for the clivia, while spring and autumn have cool weather and temperatures that are not low, which is exactly the best time to repot a clivia.

The most suitable time to repot a clivia is April 5 to 10 in spring and September 5 to 10 in autumn. When repotting, the soil must also be changed. Repotting in these two time periods allows you to prune the clivia's roots without affecting the plant's sprouting and growth.

II. Clivia repotting method 1. Take out the plant

Gardeners who have grown clivias know that the clivia grows very quickly and must be given a larger pot and fresh potting soil every year. When repotting, gently pull the plant out without damaging the roots; if the root system is too large and difficult to pull out, you can turn the pot upside down and slowly shake the clivia's stem, and after shaking it can be pulled out intact.

2. Prune the roots

Gently remove the soil from the roots of the clivia you pulled out so that the roots are all exposed, and use scissors to cut off the rotten and unhealthy root fibers. If the root rot is severe, you can spray a fungicide to sterilize, otherwise the disease will be brought into the new soil.

3. Potting

The clivia grows larger year by year, and the pot must also be changed to a larger one each year when repotting. First spread a layer of soil at the bottom of the pot, then add base fertilizer, then add some more soil, then gently place the clivia in, fill soil around it, hold the plant upright and press the soil firm.

4. Watering

The clivia's potting soil should be loose, breathable and well-draining. After repotting, water thoroughly, then place it in a cool, ventilated place. After it recovers for about a week, slowly move it to a bright spot for normal care.
