What to do when a potted pothos gets bugs

Pothos is the most common green plant in our lives. It has strong vitality and lush green leaves. Placing it indoors can both decorate the room and purify the air, so it is often seen in homes and offices. However, pothos itself is not very prone to attracting bugs, but many friends find that their pothos develops lots of bugs when growing it, which is often caused by soil cultivation; these bugs come with the soil. So how should pothos bugs be dealt with? Let's take a look.

1. Garlic water for pest control

Garlic water is often effective at killing aphids, planthoppers and fungus gnats, and can very effectively clear pests from pothos. First choose 3-4 garlic bulbs, peel them and mash them, then add water to make an aqueous solution. Let it sit for a few hours, then collect the clear liquid on top and spray it on the affected areas with a sprayer or watering can. This can effectively kill most pests, and the materials are simple and easy to obtain, but the only drawback is the strong garlic smell, which takes a week to dissipate.

2. Tobacco water for pest control

Using tobacco water is also a fairly common pest control method in daily life, and it can reasonably remove many kinds of pests. First soak cigarette butts or pipe tobacco in water, let it sit overnight, filter the water, put the filtered clear liquid into a sprayer or watering can, and then spray the affected areas. Note here that you should pay attention to the concentration; if the concentration is too high, it may affect the normal growth of the pothos.

3. Soap solution for pest control

Using household soap powder, detergent and the like is also effective for pest control. Generally, soap powder is mixed with water with the concentration controlled at about 0.3%; if it is detergent, the concentration should be about 0.2%. Stir it evenly and put it into a spray bottle, then spray and kill the pests. Be sure to pay attention to the concentration, otherwise it can very easily cause the pothos to die.

4. Fertilizer for pest control

If the pests come with the soil and you do not want the trouble of changing the soil, using fertilizer for pest control is fairly common, but because the bugs on pothos are usually small insects, these small insects are usually not worth killing with fertilizer, and fertilizer also has certain side effects. If you are growing on a small scale, it is not recommended to use fertilizer for pest control, as the loss may outweigh the gain.
