What to pay attention to when transporting piglets

Pig farming is a traditional breeding industry in our country, and due to the impact of swine fever, pork prices have soared, so the state has also relaxed restrictions on pig farmers, and the number of pig farmers has grown rapidly. Pig farming requires piglets, so piglets need to be transported to other places, and what should be paid attention to during transport? Let's take a look.

1. Preparations before transport

Before transport, we must first make good preparations. First, we should go to a formal market to select piglets, and make sure the piglets develop normally and have no diseases. After quarantine inspection and declaration, and after completing the relevant procedures, transport can begin. However, pay attention to the timing of transport; it is not suitable to do it in summer or winter, so as not to affect the piglets. Choose a suitable transport vehicle according to the number being transported. The vehicle should be equipped with various medicines and drinking water utensils, and the vehicle must be kept clean and hygienic. A comprehensive disinfection of the transport vehicle should be done to ensure the complete elimination of pathogens.

2. Selection of transport vehicles

When transporting, it is best not to choose vehicles used for transporting commercial pigs. After the vehicle is disinfected, it is best to leave it empty for a day before transporting. Before loading the pigs, disinfect it once more with low-toxicity drugs. During transport, the safety of the piglets must be ensured, so as to avoid injuries to limbs and hooves, which can lead to bacterial infections. For piglets about to be transported, feeding should be stopped two hours before transport. Pay attention to protecting the limbs and hooves, and secure the doors after all have been loaded. If the journey is long, an appropriate amount of straw should also be laid on the bottom of the compartment to reduce the possibility of piglets being injured. At the same time, pay attention to the number of pigs loaded; it must not be too many, so as to prevent the piglets from crushing each other and dying.

3. Prevent stress

Four days before transporting the piglets, increase the intake of nutrients for the piglets, such as electrolytic multivitamins, vitamin C, etc., which can enhance the piglets' constitution. When transporting, it is best to choose piglets with good body condition, a relatively large body size, and those immunized two weeks earlier. During transport, also pay attention to the vehicle speed; it must not be too fast. When road conditions are poor, try to keep the vehicle body steady to prevent stress reactions in the piglets. After arriving at the destination, an appropriate amount of agents such as Huzaikang should be added to the feed, to be used continuously for about half a month.
