What to Do If Dendrobium Won't Bloom

Dendrobium flowers are beautiful and pleasantly fragrant, making it an excellent potted plant. That's why many people like to keep several pots of dendrobium at home. However, problems can arise during cultivation - for example, a dendrobium that has been grown for several years without blooming. What causes this? Let's find out together.

1. Increase Air Humidity

Cause: Dendrobium has high requirements for air humidity during its growth, because wild dendrobium generally grows in forests where air humidity is high, often epiphytic on tree trunks or rocks. If air humidity is too low, it cannot meet its water needs, which inhibits its growth and can even cause it not to bloom.

Solution: During the growth of dendrobium, it must be given sufficient air humidity, with 80% being optimal. For its normal growth and development, you need a spray bottle to regularly mist its leaves, which can also maintain relatively high air humidity.

2. Reduce Light Exposure

Cause: As mentioned above, dendrobium originally grows in deep forests and mountains, generally without sunlight year-round. So during cultivation, if exposed to strong light, the plant is easily scorched by the sun, which naturally affects its blooming.

Solution: During dendrobium care, if the light is too strong, it needs appropriate shading - just let it receive some scattered light, or even no light at all. Only then can it grow better and produce beautiful flowers.

3. Increase Fertilizer

Cause: Dendrobium has a relatively high fertilizer demand, especially during the flowering period from April to May. If the plant lacks fertilizer at this time, it will affect its normal flower bud differentiation, thereby affecting its normal blooming.

Solution: Every year from April to May, which is dendrobium's flowering period, if you want it to bloom more, you need to fertilize before flowering so that flower buds can form as quickly as possible and the flowers will be more vibrant. It is recommended to apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer while controlling nitrogen fertilizer. After the plant blooms, you can also apply some organic fertilizer solution to replenish the nutrients consumed by blooming, applying 1-2 times per month.
