Clivia Care Essentials and Precautions

And that is assuming you are growing it well. If you want it to bloom, take a look at the care essentials and precautions first.

Light Conditions

Clivia is suited to a spot with diffused light; direct sunlight should be avoided, as it easily causes sunscald.

Most clivias are kept indoors. Besides diffused light during the day, they also receive artificial light at night. Too long a light period affects flower bud differentiation, resulting in no blooming.

Temperature Conditions

The suitable temperature for clivia to bloom is between 12°C and 20°C. Too high or too low a temperature will affect its normal blooming. The maximum must not exceed 25°C, and the minimum must not fall below 10°C.

In summer, clivia should be placed in a cool, ventilated spot with moist air. During hot spells, mist the leaves of the clivia more often; in winter, pay attention to keeping it warm.

Soil Conditions

Clivia is suited to loose, airy soil with good drainage. Compacted soil easily leads to root rot in clivia. The special soil for clivia is leaf mold. It is recommended to choose a soil suited to it for growing.

Nutrient Conditions

Clivia itself does not like heavy fertilizing, but if fertility is insufficient during the flowering and growing period, the clivia will fail to bloom.

Before flower bud differentiation, apply fertilizer 1 to 2 times. You can choose a fertilizer richer in phosphorus. Be careful not to apply too much nitrogen fertilizer, as it will cause the plant to grow leggy and not bloom.

Water Conditions

Do not water too much. You can choose to water thoroughly in one go. If there is a long-term drought, you can soak the whole pot in water.

Normally, pay attention to cleaning dust off the leaves to promote the clivia's photosynthesis.
