Kaffir Lily Summer Care Methods and Precautions
In summer, the weather is hot, so extra care must be taken in looking after the kaffir lily (Clivia miniata). First, as soon as the room temperature rises to 25°C, the amount of fertilizer should be reduced. This is because too much fertilizer cannot be absorbed by the roots. As a result, the fertilizer ferments and generates high temperatures, scorching and rotting the kaffir lily's roots.
Second, light must be controlled. Around June each year, the side facing the sun should be adjusted once to ensure the leaves grow in a regular, neat pattern. In midsummer, the kaffir lily should be given two hours of morning light each day.
Third, ventilate to lower the temperature. In summer, special care should be taken to place the kaffir lily above a water tank or water basin.
Fourth, water appropriately. Although the amount of water given in summer is greater than in other seasons, the principle of "do not water until the soil is completely dry, and when you water, water thoroughly" should still be followed. In addition, when watering, be careful not to let water run into the heart of the leaves, otherwise it is prone to leaf rot disease.
