Mountain Rose cultivation methods and precautions

Although the name Mountain Rose contains the word "rose," it is not a rose but a succulent plant. Its appearance is somewhat similar to a rose, which is why it is loved by many people, and quite a few people grow it. However, some people do not understand its growth habits, so they dare not grow it casually. So how should Mountain Rose be grown? Let's learn about it together with the editor.

1. Light and temperature requirements

July to August each year is its dormancy period. At this time, the temperature is relatively high, so appropriate shading is needed, and it should be kept in a ventilated and dry place. Although it is cold-tolerant, in order to ensure its normal growth in winter, the winter temperature should still be kept at around 5°C, and it is recommended to keep it indoors. Mountain Rose grows from autumn to late spring. Apart from the need for appropriate shading during the dormancy period, it should be given sufficient sunlight at all other times. If the light is insufficient, it will become leggy, resulting in a loose plant shape and thinner leaves.

2. Pot and soil requirements

It does not have very high requirements for soil, but it relatively prefers soil that is a bit loose and has good air permeability. It is best if the soil contains a certain amount of granular material. When growing it, in order to achieve a full-pot effect, it is naturally necessary to provide it with the most suitable soil. It is best to choose peat soil mixed with perlite and other granular materials, as this is relatively suitable for its growth.

3. Fertilizer and water management

During the growing period, the potting soil should always be kept slightly moist. Waterlogged soil or excessive drought is unfavorable for its growth. In particular, avoid water accumulating in the center of the leaf rosette, otherwise it is very easy to cause heart rot. Although it will not die at around 0°C in winter, it will stop growing, so it is best to sow it with a minimum temperature of around 5°C, and at the same time there should be a day-night temperature difference of around 10°C. During the summer dormancy period, there should be good ventilation, avoid strong direct sunlight, and control watering to prevent stuffy, hot, and humid conditions from causing the plant to rot. Its fertilizer requirements are not strict. Generally, placing some granular slow-release fertilizer in the soil is enough to meet its growth needs.

4. Precautions

During the dormancy period of Mountain Rose, watering must be controlled. Generally, water once every 10-15 days. When the leaves are completely wrapped up, it can only be watered once a month, and it should not be watered thoroughly. It should be kept in a ventilated place all day. If ventilation is poor during the dormancy period, black rot will soon occur. In summer, shading is needed. Generally, when the temperature exceeds 30°C, it enters the dormancy period. At this time, the leaves wrap up, and the outer leaves slowly dry up. This is the obvious dormant state.
