How to sprout cyclamen after dormancy

Cyclamen, also known as turnip begonia or rabbit ear flower, usually enters dormancy when summer temperatures rise, with its leaves gradually turning yellow until they wither, finally becoming a bare bulb. At this point, if you want to make it sprout again, you need to carry out sprouting treatment. How is this done? Let's find out together.

1. Place in shade and ventilate

Generally, when the temperature reaches above 25°C, the leaves of cyclamen will gradually turn yellow or even wither, which signals that the cyclamen is about to enter dormancy. So cyclamen dormancy generally occurs in summer. Its most suitable growth temperature is around 25-28°C, and it cannot go below 10°C or above 35°C. Once it enters dormancy, the first thing to do is move it to a cool, ventilated place, with no need to take out or replace the corm and soil in the pot. This is to avoid long-term direct sunlight and high temperatures directly causing its death.

2. Lower temperature and humidity

During the dormancy period of cyclamen, certain cooling and dehumidifying measures should be taken. For example, you can water at regular intervals, but you must control the amount of water; just keep the potting soil slightly moist. Do not water too much at one time. If you water too much and the soil becomes too wet, the root system of the cyclamen will have difficulty breathing, and over time it will rot from being too heavy, causing the cyclamen to die. So during dormancy, you must pay attention to the amount of watering.

3. Control watering

When the weather turns cool, it signals that the dormancy period of the cyclamen is about to end. At this time, gradually restore the watering amount for the cyclamen until it returns to normal watering, so that it can safely pass through the dormancy period, and new buds will also sprout.

4. Increase light

When the dormancy period is about to end, new buds will begin to stir at its top. At this time, promptly move it from a fully shaded environment to a place with a little light for care. While increasing light, also appropriately increase the amount of watering so that new buds sprout as soon as possible.
