Clivia miniata should be moved outdoors around Qingming.

Spring is the best period for clivia growth, and in this season the following care measures should be taken:

1. Move outdoors at the right time. In temperate regions this is generally around Qingming, while in cold regions it should be delayed by about half a month. It can also be moved outdoors when the temperature is above 15°C.

2. Repotting and division. Repotting is generally done after flowering in spring. For plants that have tiller buds at the base, with 3 to 4 leaves and a plant height of more than 10 cm, division should be carried out along with repotting. Clivia miniata has fleshy roots and requires loose, fertile, well-drained soil; it grows best in slightly acidic soil with a pH of 6.2 to 6.0. Potting soil can be prepared by mixing decomposed chicken manure and pond mud at 4:6, or by mixing pine needles, decomposed chicken manure and river sand at a ratio of 5:3:2.

3. Watering and fertilizing. As spring temperatures keep rising, the frequency and amount of watering should go from less to more. Clivia miniata likes to grow in a humid environment, and the relative air humidity should be no lower than 60%, so that the leaves are glossy. If the environment is dry, the leaves will become dull and may even wilt and turn yellow, with poor growth. Therefore, spray water on the leaves 2 to 3 times a day. But be careful not to let the water run down to the root crown, to prevent waterlogging of the potting soil. After moving outdoors, generally apply a dilute liquid fertilizer once about every 10 days; if using compound fertilizer, it should be applied at the edge of the pot, and the amount should be small rather than large.

4. Promoting buds and forcing flowers. To avoid "stuck arrows" caused by low temperatures, the room temperature should be increased 2 to 3 weeks before the arrow emerges, watering should be increased, and a liquid fertilizer should be applied once every 7 to 10 days, or a compound fertilizer mainly of phosphorus and potassium once every half month, keeping the indoor temperature at 10°C-15°C as much as possible, which can promote the plant to bloom on schedule.

5. Preventing and controlling pests and diseases. A lime-sulfur mixture at a concentration of 0.3 to 0.5 can be sprayed on the plants, once every 10 days, for 2 to 3 consecutive sprays.
