How to prevent Clivia from "holding the arrow"? Practical methods shared
Clivia is grown mainly for its flowers, but sometimes when the flowering season arrives, the flowers cannot open, showing the "holding the arrow" phenomenon. The main causes are as follows:
1. Unsuitable temperature. The suitable temperature for Clivia to bloom is 15-25°C, and the day-night temperature difference is best around 10°C; if the temperature exceeds 25°C, it affects the shooting of the arrow, and below 15°C it is also unfavorable for shooting the arrow.
2. Insufficient nutrition. During the flowering period, Clivia needs more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. If too much nitrogen fertilizer is applied at this time while phosphorus, potassium fertilizer and trace elements are lacking, it will affect the shooting of the arrow and flowering; even if the arrow can be shot, it is often easily clamped by the leaves.
3. Lack of water. During the stage of shooting the arrow, Clivia needs more water. If the water supply is insufficient at this time, the "holding the arrow" phenomenon will also occur.
In addition, factors such as dry air, too strong light, and a small day-night temperature difference can also affect the normal shooting of the arrow in Clivia.
To prevent Clivia from "holding the arrow", the potting soil should be replaced once a year, and forest humus soil is best for the potting soil.
The principle of watering is to water frequently and little, water thoroughly but not to the point of leakage. Each time you water, add an appropriate amount of liquid fertilizer. The water for watering the flowers is best warm water at around 25°C. In the early stage of flowering, appropriately increase the amount of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer to promote normal shooting of the arrow and flowering in Clivia.
