What are the reasons a clivia does not grow new leaves

Why is my clivia not growing new leaves

When a normally growing clivia goes for a period without producing new leaves, you can be certain that something has gone wrong with the plant. So what causes a clivia to stop growing new leaves?

First, severe root rot leads to no new leaves. Root rot leaves the clivia with an insufficient nutrient supply, which is one reason it stops producing new leaves.

Second, newly changed soil that is alkaline inhibits root growth and nutrient uptake, which can also cause it to stop growing new leaves.

Third, pests eating the growth point in the crown of the plant, or crown rot, causes it to stop growing new leaves.

The ways to deal with this are:

For a clivia with root rot, replace the soil and mix in a certain proportion of river sand, or soak it in rooting powder so the root system becomes strong again as quickly as possible, and then new leaves will grow. If the soil is alkaline, promptly replace it with fresh neutral soil, or pour some ferrous sulfate solution into the original soil, or sprinkle a diluted edible vinegar solution into the pot to neutralize the alkaline components in the soil; after this treatment, new leaves will grow. For a clivia whose growth point in the crown has been eaten by pests, or whose crown has rotted, the likelihood of growing new leaves is not great, so you can only wait for it to produce new shoots from the stem.
