Repotting a clivia is best done in the cool days of autumn

In the cool autumn weather, you should repot your clivia

Based on many years of experience, a clivia with 2 to 4 leaves should use a 10 cm pot, one with 5 to 8 leaves a 13 cm pot, one with 9 to 12 leaves a 17 cm pot, one with 13 to 16 leaves a 23 cm pot, and one with more than 17 leaves a 27 to 33 cm pot. Do not use plastic pots, porcelain pots or southern clay pots; a simple terracotta pot is best.

In autumn the clivia grows vigorously and needs a fairly large amount of fertilizer. Therefore, besides placing fermented soybean cake residue, bone meal, roasted hemp seeds or rabbit manure at the bottom of the pot as a base fertilizer when repotting, you can also put some roasted perilla seeds, dried sesame, pig blood powder and the like on the upper part of the potting soil. If conditions allow, apply fermented soybean cake water or fishy water once every half month.

In addition, to make the clivia bloom normally, do not rush to move it indoors in autumn; it should be given a low-temperature treatment of about 5°C outdoors for about 10 days. During this period, water less and stop fertilizing, and give it appropriate sunlight during the day. Clivia can endure short periods of low temperature around 0°C. A short period at around 5°C will not harm it. After the low-temperature treatment, move it indoors and care for it at 10 to 15°C in a place without direct sunlight.
