How should narcissus be grown in water

Narcissus is elegant and is a very beautiful potted flowering plant. There are many ways to grow narcissus: water culture, soil culture, and sand culture are all possible, and in daily life water culture is a relatively widely used growing method. So how should narcissus be grown in water? Come and take a look at the detailed introduction with the editor.

1. Bulb selection

The first step in the water culture method for narcissus is to select the bulbs. From the appearance, you should choose healthy, plump, flat-shaped bulbs. If there are more small bulblets beside the main bulb, it means there are more narcissus flower buds. The outer skin of the narcissus bulb should be chosen with a bright color, the lines of the scale skin should be widely spaced, and the bulb should be firm and have a certain weight. When pinched gently with a finger, it should feel solid. If the bottom depression of the bulb is small and deep, it means this kind of bulb has a relatively high water content and is not recommended for selection.

2. Processing and potting

The second step in water culture of narcissus is to process the bulb and then pot it. Peel off the outer skin of the selected bulb, remove the protective mud and dead roots at the base, then use a small knife to peel off 3-4 layers of outer skin on the bulb so that the flower buds of the bulb are exposed, but when peeling, be careful not to damage the flower buds. After peeling, place the bulb in clean water for one night, then it can be placed directly into a shallow narcissus pot, adding water to submerge one third of the bulb.

3. Light and temperature

During the water culture of narcissus, special attention should be given to providing sufficient light. During the day it should be placed in a sunny place, and at night it can be placed under light. This can not only prevent the stems and leaves of the narcissus from growing excessively, but also make the leaves short, wide, and thick, sturdy, with a deep green leaf color and fragrant blooms. Narcissus grows well in a 10-15 degree environment and can bloom in about 45 days, and the flowering period can last more than a month.

4. Fertilizer and water management

The most important thing in water culture of narcissus is fertilizer and water. When it is first potted, the narcissus can have its water changed once a day, then once every 2-3 days, and after the flower buds form, once a week. When growing in water, it is best not to use tap water. Pollution in tap water can cause the narcissus bulb to rot. Generally, spring water, well water, and rainwater are all suitable. If there is really none, tap water can be used after being exposed to the sun. Water-cultured narcissus generally can only be fertilized after 5-7 days, because by then the roots have grown mature and fertilizing will not damage the roots, but during these few days do not change the water.
