Tips for cultivating clivia

Clivia is hard to kill, but also hard to grow well. When clivia is grown to its best, the leaf texture is clear, the surface fine and smooth, the leaves neat, and the flowers bright and compact.

Many clivia lovers say: "Clivia can't be grown well on a household windowsill." That only means they haven't found the trick. Since clivia likes sun in winter and needs appropriate shading in summer and autumn, and requires high humidity, fertilizer and water should be given according to temperature. While maintaining a temperature difference of 15-25°C, apply a dilute liquid fertilizer once every 20 days, and keep the soil loose. Slightly more water will not cause clivia root rot.

To maintain temperature and humidity, you can make an iron trough under the windowsill, with a trough height of 7 cm. Use a wooden frame as the stand for the water trough, with the height adjusted according to the plants, cover it with plastic film, and put water 5 to 6 cm deep in the trough. In winter, two 10W heating tubes can be placed in the water, set apart, to bring the water temperature to 25-30°C, and the flower pots are propped on wooden blocks so they protrude above the water surface. Switching on the power at night to heat increases the pot temperature and raises humidity, which can solve the problem of clivia failing to bloom. This method can achieve the ideal result in clivia cultivation, so you might as well give it a try.
