How to grow Clivia seeds? Detailed sowing method explained
Choose healthy, plump seeds and soak them in warm water at 40°C to gradually soften and swell the seed coat and endosperm. After 24 to 36 hours, take the seeds out and let them dry for a while before sowing. Place the seeds in a growing medium containing fine sand and sawdust for germination. After about 40 days, when the sprouted roots reach 2 cm, plant them in a flower pot for care.
1. Choosing seeds
Select healthy, plump seeds. Although some seeds have already matured, they have no obvious micropyle and weak pollination compatibility, and some are self-pollinated. After such seeds are sown, they are not easy to sprout, or the seedlings grow weakly.
2. Soaking seeds in warm water
The seed coat of Clivia is extremely tough, and the seed coat is hard and smooth, so it does not easily let water in, but its hilum absorbs water very quickly. Therefore, before sowing, soak the seeds in warm water at 40°C to gradually soften and swell the seed coat and endosperm. After about 24 to 36 hours, take the seeds out and let them dry slightly.
3. Sowing method
Prepare a container, add fine sand as the medium, spread a layer of sawdust on top of the fine sand, lay the seeds flat on it, then cover with another layer of sawdust. Keep the room temperature at 20 to 25°C, and they will sprout in about 40 days. When the seeds sprout and the roots reach 2 cm, they can be transplanted into a prepared flower pot for care.
