How often should you water a Clivia? How do you grow it so it thrives?

Some people say Clivia is hard to grow, others say it is easy. The trick lies in watering, but watering a Clivia is no easy matter; even people who have grown Clivia for many years sometimes cannot figure out how often to water a Clivia. How do you grow a Clivia so it thrives?

I. How often should you water a Clivia

1. For any kind of plant, there is no exact rule that says water once every so many days. You cannot set a Clivia's watering by a specific number of days and times. Because the seasons differ, and the growing environment, the surrounding temperature and humidity, the pots used and all other conditions vary, rigidly fixing a specific time to water it will only cause root rot from overwatering or dry, withered roots from too little water.

Generally, we decide whether to water based on the Clivia's growth state, the season it is in, and how dry or moist the potting soil is. When the potting soil is on the dry side, water it promptly. But never water too much at one time, to prevent water from accumulating in the pot and causing the plant to rot at the roots.

2. Watering methods for different seasons:

(1) In spring, water once a day;

(2) In summer, use a fine spray bottle to water the leaf surfaces and the surrounding ground together; on sunny days, water twice a day;

(3) In autumn, water once every other day;

(4) In winter, water once every other day; in winter, water once a week or less.

II. How do you grow a Clivia so it thrives?

1. Suitable temperature

It likes a moist, semi-shaded environment and greatly fears the cold; when the temperature is below 5 degrees, it will enter a dormant period. So the best temperature for its growth is between 15 and 25 degrees; if it is above 30 degrees, the plant will stop growing and the leaves will become very long and dense, greatly reducing its ornamental value.

2. Suitable humidity

Humidity depends on the specific situation; it should meet the leaves' need for moisture, but the humidity must not be higher than 90%, otherwise the leaves will grow leggy.

3. Suitable light

Clivia is a flower that likes tree shade. Clivia's growth is phototropic; as long as there is enough diffused light and a well-ventilated environment, it is very suitable for Clivia to grow.

4. Suitable watering

In spring, water once a day; in summer, use a fine spray bottle to water the leaf surfaces and the surrounding ground together; on sunny days, water twice a day; in autumn, water once every other day; in winter, water once a week or less.
