A guide to caring for clivia during the Spring Festival

Clivia should be placed in a warm spot indoors, with the daytime temperature kept at around 23°C, the nighttime temperature kept at around 13°C, and the day-night temperature difference kept at around 10°C. Do not keep it beside a stove just to keep it warm, otherwise it is prone to yellow leaves and its normal growth will be affected. In winter, clivia likes plenty of sunlight, but it does not need long hours of light. After clivia shoots its flower stalk, do not let the buds be exposed to sunlight too early, otherwise it may bloom inside the leaves; watering frequency should be well controlled. Usually water thoroughly once, then water again after the potting soil has dried naturally. If watered too often and the potting soil stays waterlogged for a long time, root rot will occur. You can often spray water on the leaves and wipe them with a cloth to prevent the air from becoming too dry. Do not apply raw fertilizer, because fertilizer can decompose and ferment at a temperature of 15°C to 18°C, generating high heat that burns clivia's fleshy roots.
