How to grow pothos

Pothos is a very popular ornamental plant in China and one of the plants commonly used by most families and companies. It has various effects such as absorbing impurities and purifying the air, can improve the environment, and is a plant with very high economic value. Moreover, the planting method for pothos is actually very simple, though we still need to do a good job with management. So below, the editor brings you the planting method for pothos. Let's take a look!

1. Soil selection

Pothos likes to grow in a moist environment, so the soil must have good water retention capacity. However, water should not be too much either, otherwise it is prone to root rot and seedling rot, so it must also have strong drainage and irrigation performance. Although pothos is not very strict about soil requirements, if you want to grow pothos with high ornamental value, then you should choose soil with sufficient fertility and strong permeability. Good soil can enhance the growth ability of pothos and improve its ornamental value. Therefore, the choice of soil is very important, and everyone must pay more attention to it.

2. Reasonable watering

We should water reasonably according to changes in season and temperature. When the temperature is lower, because water evaporates relatively slowly, the amount of watering should be appropriately reduced. Reduce the usual watering amount by 3/4 or about half. However, even if the temperature rises, do not water too frequently. Avoid root rot that causes the death of pothos. Then appropriately water the aerial roots of pothos to prevent water from evaporating too quickly and causing the roots to absorb too little water. When watering in winter, pay attention to the water temperature. Do not use cold water, to avoid damaging the roots.

3. Scientific fertilization

After entering autumn and winter, because the temperature drops sharply, the growth of pothos is inhibited, the growth rate declines, and growth may even stop. Therefore, in autumn and winter, pothos does not have a great demand for nutrients, and the amount of fertilization should be reduced. Before winter begins, appropriately spray liquid inorganic fertilizer, about once every half a month. Then in winter, fertilization should mainly be foliar fertilizer spraying. Leaves can absorb fertilizer through stomata, helping pothos overwinter safely. Foliar fertilizer must not use inorganic fertilizer; use special fertilizer that is easily absorbed.

4. Shaping and pruning

The number of cuttings per pot of pothos should be maintained at about 5 plants. Supports can be set up to make it easier for pothos to twine around the plants and grow upward. Then in spring, pothos should be shaped and pruned. When the stems and vines of pothos exceed the plants by about 20cm, cut off about 40cm of the stem tips of 3 of them. After new buds sprout from the cut stem tips, cut off the other stem tips. If freezing damage occurs, then short-cut 1/3 of the stems and vines by half. The other half of the stems and vines should be cut off by about 2/3.

The above is a brief introduction to how to grow pothos. Growing pothos is actually very simple. As long as basic management work is done well, sometimes it can be maintained very well even without fertilization. That is all for today's introduction.
