How to manage the flowering period of potted gardenia? Care tips and precautions
He Jiong sang "Gardenia Blossoms." That faint sadness of youth seems to drift around again, like the faint fragrance of gardenia, wisp by wisp, stirring the heart. The flower language of the gardenia includes eternal love and promises, a beautiful form of sustenance, blending with joy, flowers and leaves lingering together. In its silence, I seem to read the flavor of the passing years.
When the wind blows, the branches and leaves sway back and forth, and gardenia blossoms open, forming a beautiful scenery. I think, if the gardenia were a woman, she would surely be a shy young girl, gentle and delicate, a lovely little beauty.

The gardenia itself is a plant resistant to extraction. The perfume industry has so far been unable to successfully extract natural gardenia essential oil, and can only use synthetic compounds or blend other essential oils with similar scents to restore the fragrance of gardenia as much as possible. So although gardenia has a rich fragrance and is not rare, it is seldom used in perfumes.
I. When does the gardenia bloom?
The gardenia's flowering period is in spring and summer. It can bloom continuously from May to June until August, but there may also be cases where it blooms earlier or relatively later. Due to different climates in different regions, the blooming time varies.
II. How long is the gardenia's flowering period?
Actually, the gardenia's flowering period is relatively long. One flower can bloom for 3-5 days. Sometimes, a larger plant's flowering period can last as long as 1 month.
III. Flowering period management for potted gardenias
1. Gardenias like fertilizer. It is best to apply balanced, mild decomposed organic fertilizer, with thin applications and frequent feeding. Before the gardenia blooms, apply liquid fertilizer about once every half month. During the bud stage, water once to twice with a 0.1% potassium dihydrogen phosphate aqueous solution, and before flowering, at the bud stage, and at the swelling stage, spray Huaduo Zhuangdiling respectively, which can promote strong buds, plump petals, vivid flower color, rich fragrance, and a longer flowering period. It can make the flowers plump and the fragrance rich.
2. Gardenias like a moist environment, but if watered too much, causing too much water in the potting soil, the air in the soil will decrease, the roots will be damaged, the leaves will turn black, and leaves will drop; water timely and appropriately according to soil moisture conditions. Gardenias also especially need iron nourishment; iron deficiency can cause chlorosis.
3. Too strong light will cause gardenia leaves to turn yellow or even fall off, so in summer it is best to keep gardenias in a well-ventilated, humid, and partially shaded sparse forest or shade shed.
4. After the gardenia flowers fade, the branches should be cut back promptly to encourage new branch growth. Except for the need for shade during strong midday light from July to August and during the winter dormancy period, gardenias generally need to be kept in sunlight to produce abundant flowers and lush leaves.
IV. Precautions during the gardenia flowering period:
1. Do not water the flower buds when blooming; they rot easily.
2. When blooming, the potted plant can be moved indoors or to a slightly cooler place for viewing, which can extend the flowering period by 2-3 days.
3. Do not fertilize during the flowering period, otherwise it will cause bud drop and flower drop.
