Potted Hyacinth: How to Extend the Blooming Period and Fertilize After Flowering
Hyacinth is a very lovely densely flowered bulb, and the varieties commonly used in home cultivation include “Amsterdam”, “White Pearl”, “Innocence”, “Pink Pearl”, “Carnegie”, “Blue Star”, “Marconi”, “Amethyst”, and others, in various colors with a strong fragrance.
Hyacinth has become a flower that many gardening enthusiasts must plant every year. Those planting it for the first time do not know how long the hyacinth blooming period lasts, and although hyacinth flowers are beautiful, a short blooming period leaves many enthusiasts feeling disappointed.
From the first flower to the last, a hyacinth lasts about one month. This blooming period is not fixed; it depends on the ambient temperature. If the temperature is a little higher, the flowers fade quickly and the blooming period is shorter; if the temperature is on the cool side, the blooming period is longer. In addition, let me mention a few other points about hyacinths.

What should you do after a potted hyacinth finishes blooming? There are two choices:
One is to enjoy the leaves for a few days and then throw it away (the choice of most people, especially those growing it in water).
The other is to keep growing the bulb and wait for it to bloom again next year.
Blooming period: commonly blooms in March. After planting in soil at room temperature, it can bloom after more than two months.
1. Supplement with some vitamins, such as (21 Golden Vita) balanced vitamin tablets; you can also crush them into powder when the plant is about to bloom and bury them around the hyacinth.
2. After blooming, place it in a cool room with not-too-strong light.
3. Ensure sufficient water and fertilizer, but remember not to let water accumulate and not to burn the roots.
4. Increase the humidity slightly.
5. Ventilate frequently.
Hyacinths prefer cool conditions and love light. Before blooming, ensuring 4 hours of direct sunlight per day can make the hyacinth grow more robust and the flower color more vivid. After blooming, move it to a bright place without direct sunlight and keep the environment ventilated. Lower temperatures can extend the blooming period.
Hyacinth is one of the earliest-blooming spring bulb flowers, with a wide variety of cultivars and easy care. Whether you are a beginner or an expert grower, you can grow it into tight, abundant clusters of flowers.
For home care, the water culture method is generally used, and the following points need attention:
1. Leave a space of one to two cm between the hyacinth bulb and the water level so the roots can breathe freely. Never let the water cover the upper part of the bulb, as this very easily causes the bulb to rot.
2. Newly water-cultured hyacinths must have their water changed promptly, and should receive one to two hours of light daily. Gradually reduce the frequency of water changes and increase the light exposure, and it will soon bloom.
By following the above points, my hyacinths last spring bloomed for one month, truly one month, with fragrance throughout.
