What breed is best for raising broiler chickens? Broiler breed selection advice
Broiler chickens are currently the type of chicken most in demand on the market, because native chickens are mostly raised free-range in rural areas, while laying hens are mainly kept for eggs. Market demand for chicken meat comes mainly from broiler chickens raised in urban farming operations. So what broiler breed should you raise to grow more meat and get good returns, or what breed can adapt to cage raising with fewer disease outbreaks? In any case, we want to choose breeds with good meat quality and strong adaptability. So right away we will introduce several broiler breeds that are relatively suitable for farming.

1. Avian broiler chicken
This broiler can be raised in most regions of our country, has fairly good adaptability, and is suitable for farming operations, urban farms, and even free-range raising by farming households. This breed is a white-feathered broiler developed in the United States; this chicken has a broad body and a large build. Its distinguishing feature is well-developed, sturdy breast and leg muscles. It has the advantages of rapid weight gain, easy survival, and a high feed conversion rate. After many years of introduction and breeding, there is well-established breeding experience.
2. Ross 308 broiler chicken
This is a recessive white-feathered broiler, a new breed selected from the White Plymouth Rock, and a broiler breed that grows fast and has a large build. It was introduced and bred from abroad many years ago and has been promoted for large-scale farming in recent years. After many years of crossbreeding, many excellent breeds have been formed, filling in the shortcoming of slow growth in local broilers, such as Baiyun 288, Xinxing Huang, and Jiangcun Huang.
3. Shouguang chicken
Shouguang chicken is a specialty chicken of Shouguang City, Shandong Province. It is a native Chinese chicken and one of China's four major chicken breeds. It is a dual-purpose meat-and-egg chicken; besides its large build, good weight, and ample meat, its egg-laying performance is also strong. This chicken has the excellent characteristics of a huge build, delicious meat, and large eggs. This chicken is fairly agile, and after long-term natural selection its genetic traits are stable; it is an excellent local breed, and because of its strong adaptability it can be promoted for farming.
4. AA white-feathered broiler chicken
This breed is a broiler breed developed by the American company Arbor Acres. This chicken has a full body and full muscles, and is a broiler breed suitable for commercial farming. It has the advantages of a wide adaptive range, fast growth, and fairly rapid weight gain. At present it can be raised in all regions of China. It also belongs to the fast-growing white type. When farming this broiler, the meat yield after slaughter is fairly high. It can be fed coarse feed and still absorbs it well; after multiple crossbreedings, it can have even better genetic traits.
At present, the main broiler breeds can be divided into two major categories: one is white-feathered broilers, and the other is yellow-feathered broilers. But within these two major broiler categories, there are respectively many excellent breeds. Besides the broiler breeds I have introduced above, there are also many more excellent breeds formed after artificial or natural selection. You can choose suitable breeds for farming according to local actual conditions.
