Huanghuai Goat Feeding Methods

Huanghuai goats are mainly distributed in the Huanghuai River region and have a breeding history of more than 500 years. After many years of domestication and breeding, they have become a high-quality local goat breed. Past books also specifically recorded Huanghuai goats. This region has a superior natural environment and abundant forage grass, and after long-term breeding, a goat with a unique flavor has been formed. Huanghuai goats have good meat quality, good hides, and stable genetic characteristics, making them suitable for promotion and breeding. Next, this article will introduce the feeding methods for this kind of goat, to provide some help to friends who have breeding needs.

I. Ram Feeding

In daily feeding, roughage is the main feed, with a small amount of concentrate fed. Then, they can also be grazed to freely consume green feed. During the mating period, the amount of roughage fed each day is 80% of that during formal mating, and then 0.6 kg of concentrate is fed each day. During the mating period, a large amount of green feed should be fed, and then 0.8 kg of concentrate each day. Those that mate more frequently can also be additionally fed eggs.

II. Ewe Feeding

For ewes that are not pregnant, the feeding is mainly dry feed, with dry feed accounting for about 70% of the feed. In addition, green feed and some calcium powder, bone meal, and the like should be supplemented in real time to strengthen the physique. Then, during pregnancy, green feed should be the main feed, with green feed accounting for about 60% of the total feeding, followed by some mixed corn meal, fish meal, wheat, wheat bran, and other grain-processed concentrate feeds. There is also 30% dry feed. The nutrition is relatively concentrated. In addition, they should often drink water, with drinking water provided and free access to feed. Generally, they can be fed three to four times a day, one more time than before.

III. Lamb Feeding

In the first three days after birth, lambs drink mother's milk and only need warmth and clean water. After three days, start feeding some finely crushed corn meal and the like mixed with boiled water, 2 times a day; after one week, feed chopped and washed vegetable leaves and other green feed plus rice powder. Also, after one week, they can be fed about 3 times a day. After more than half a month, more can be fed, and one more feeding can be added. Coarser feed such as wheat bran can be fed, with one goat fed 50 to 70 grams per day. After one month, the feeding amount can be gradually increased, feeding various feeds, with a little salt added to the forage grass.

IV. Fattening Feeding

In the fattening period, the fattening period begins after one month after birth. At this time, if the lamb is of a larger-framed breed, more concentrate can be fed. If the constitution is weaker, only concentrate can be fed, and dry feed cannot be fed. The feeding amount required during the fattening period increases exactly with growth, but the main feed should still be a large amount of green feed and a portion of corn, wheat, soybeans, and other grains. During the fattening period, more grazing can be done, with more activity and foraging.

The above are the specific feeding methods for different Huanghuai goats. Specifically, the feed, feeding amount, and feeding frequency will be determined according to the needs and growth conditions of each period. All feed materials must be clean and mildew-free feed.
