After the clivia blooms, the seeds can be collected and sown

Clivia seeds: After the clivia finishes blooming, collect the seeds, and the following year you can propagate many more. Clivia seeds generally have a long maturation period; after pollination, they usually need 7 to 9 months to mature. So how should clivia seeds be collected? Let us find out: When the skin of the fruit changes from green to red or brownish-red, press it with your hand. If the fruit begins to soften and the skin and seeds have begun to separate, it means the seeds are already mature and it is time to harvest. At this point the fruit can be picked, and the seeds peeled out; fully ripe seeds can be sown as soon as they are harvested. If you do not sow them immediately, when harvesting the seeds you should cut off the fruit together with the "scape" using a knife, hang it in a cool, ventilated place, and after 10 to 20 days you can peel the clivia seeds out and prepare to sow them. In fact, people generally do not wait for the clivia fruit to turn red. When the clivia fruit grows to the size of a garlic bulb, as long as the fruit skin turns white-green, and when lightly pinched with the hand the fruit is hard and gives off a rustling sound, it can be picked. Tie up the cut fruit clusters, hang them up, and place them in a ventilated, light-transmitting spot. After 10 to 15 days of after-ripening, the seeds can be peeled out. Select the plump, glistening good seeds and throw away the rest. The selected seeds can then be used for sowing. Such seeds have stronger vitality and a higher germination rate. Generally, the peeled seeds should be sown within 2 to 3 days. Stored clivia seeds have a markedly lower germination rate. If they cannot be sown in time, the seeds should be wrapped tightly in a plastic bag and placed in a dry, ventilated spot, stored at 4 to 10°C. Because clivia seeds cannot be exposed to the sun and contain relatively much water, they should be checked regularly during storage to prevent spoilage.
