A Detailed Guide to Criteria for Judging the Quality of Clivia and Cultivation Techniques for Edible Mushrooms
Clivia Quality
Criteria for Judging the Quality of Clivia
① Look at the leaf sheath. That is, the small embryonic leaf opposite the first leaf. Those with a broad, thick leaf sheath, a bluntly rounded tip, and a purple-red or dark brown color are superior; those with a narrow, thin leaf sheath, a sharply pointed tip, and a pale color are ordinary varieties.
② Look at the rhizome. Those with a thick, short rhizome are superior; those with a thin, long one are ordinary varieties.
③ Look at the leaves. Seedlings with broad, thick leaves, distinct raised longitudinal and transverse veins on both the front and back, upright leaves, bluntly rounded leaf tips, and glossy leaf surfaces are excellent varieties; those with narrow, thin surface leaves, dull dark color, and leaves drooping to one side are mostly ordinary varieties.
④ Check whether they have a "face." That is, whether there is an obvious difference in shade between the leaf mesophyll and the veins.
⑤ Look at the order of emergence. For the same variety, under the same sowing period and management conditions, the first batch of seedlings to emerge, the so-called "pot-head seedlings," have stronger growth vigor and are good seedlings.
