It is not that simple to root the leaves of a clivia - a lesson on edible mushroom cultivation techniques
Generally, clivia propagation is done by sowing seeds and division. Nowadays, the method of rooting clivia from leaves is circulating, and some flower lovers even believe there is a secret method. The editor also looked at the pictures of leaf rooting and found... the information spreading everywhere is still illustrated with those same few pictures. It is not hard to imagine that one flower lover succeeded by chance, and afterward some media outlets began to hype it endlessly.
First, it can be stated for sure that the success rate of rooting clivia from leaves is not only low but extremely low, and success still has preconditions - it is not that any random leaf can succeed.
Below is the editor's view: for clivia leaf rooting, at least one of two conditions must be met. One is that the base of the leaf carries some root base (pseudobulb), or the other is that it is best to choose a leaf close to the middle.
The reason for these two conditions is that a leaf with a root base has the foundation for rooting, while choosing a leaf close to the middle is because such a leaf is very likely still in the process of growing, and later cutting propagation will generate a pseudobulb and thereby root.
Of course, suitable substrate is also needed to go with it. A substrate that is loose and breathable is best, and appropriate humidity should be maintained - moist but not wet.
Therefore, for ordinary flower lovers, clivia propagation is not suitable by leaves, because the success rate is really low and the time required is very long. However, flower lovers who enjoy experimenting can use it for experiments.
