Summer Orchid Care Tips

Shade and avoid light. Orchids are semi-shade-loving flowers, so in midsummer they should be properly shaded and kept away from strong light. It is best to use shade netting for shading, and to place the orchid pots close to the water surface or in a place with fresh air and good ventilation.

Fertilizing and watering. Fertilizing should follow the principle of applying thin fertilizer frequently, and should also depend on the orchid variety, whether the weather is cloudy or clear, the temperature level, and the strength of the plant's growth. Under normal circumstances, in summer Cymbidium goeringii and Cymbidium faberi should be given nitrogen and potassium fertilizer, Cymbidium ensifolium needs phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, while Cymbidium kanran may be given no fertilizer at all. In addition, weak plants should not be fertilized on cloudy days or when the temperature is too high. Although orchids have fleshy roots, in summer with strong light and high temperatures their water requirements increase relatively, so sufficient water must be ensured. In addition to normal watering, spray the leaves around noon to increase air humidity.

Prevent pests and diseases. Orchids are highly prone to pests and diseases in summer. A new high-lipid film can be sprayed once every 10 days to prevent the occurrence of leaf viral diseases. When pests appear, insecticides should be used promptly for prevention.

Pruning of diseased and pest-damaged branches. Orchid leaves that have been harmed by pests or diseases should be cut off promptly, and a tree-protecting general should be sprayed to disinfect and sterilize, reducing infection of wounds by pathogens. (Danni)
