How to prevent and treat root rot in Clivia?

1. Prevention

The suitable growing temperature for Clivia is 5-25°C. In the hot and humid summer, in addition to measures such as shading, ventilation, and cooling, its growth should be controlled and the care of its roots strengthened. The main methods: first, use clay pots for growing Clivia; second, do not fertilize or fertilize sparingly in summer; third, control watering in summer, adhering to the principle of not watering until the soil is completely dry. To prevent waterlogged roots in summer from excessive water, you can use a large wooden box filled with wet sawdust and bury the flowerpot in it (without watering inside the pot), then check regularly and spray water again when the sawdust dries out.

2. Treatment

If root rot unfortunately occurs in Clivia, rescue measures should be taken promptly. First, knock the Clivia with rotten roots out of the pot, remove the soil, wash the roots with clean water, then apply a potassium permanganate aqueous solution to the rotten root areas. After that, wrap all the leaves with white paper, exposing only the roots, and let the roots sun in the sunlight for half an hour, using ultraviolet rays to kill pathogens. After treatment, if only a few roots of the diseased plant have rotted, it can be directly planted into sterilized nutrient soil, with less watering for the first half month, and growth can be restored in about one and a half months; if more than half or all of the roots of the diseased plant have rotted, it should be planted in a pot filled with fine sand, placed in a shady spot to sprout new roots, and after about two months when new roots have grown, replace with nutrient soil and normal management can be resumed.
