What to pay attention to when building a duck house

Duck meat is a major type of poultry meat, and raising ducks well is currently a good path to wealth. To raise ducks, it is best to stay away from cities and go to suburbs, mountainous areas, places with abundant water sources and a good environment for breeding. The first thing to consider when raising ducks is choosing a suitable site to build a duck house for the ducks to live in. What kind of duck house to build, what facilities and conditions it should have, and what should be noted and what is essential will be discussed below.

I. Choosing a site

First, choose a place away from residential areas, with convenient drainage, close to a water source, convenient transportation, and slightly elevated and flat terrain to build the duck house. It is best if the surrounding environment is good, with no industrial or mining enterprises or factories discharging toxic substances. It should be far from other farms to avoid the spread of disease.

II. Requirements for the duck house

Generally, the duck house to be built is required to allow natural ventilation and air flow, but enough ventilation fans must also be installed. Generally, a duck house 80 m long and 6 m wide needs 10 ventilation fans, with two installed at each end and 3 ventilation fans installed on each side, but the number differs for different sizes. Generally, the length of a duck house should not exceed 100 m. A long, narrow duck house easily causes crowding and stampedes. A nearly square duck house is generally better. The duck house must be divided into pens. Duck pens can be divided into units of 4 sq m each. In addition, each duck house needs a brooding room to raise ducklings. A sewage channel must be set up under the duck house to avoid polluting the living environment. The roof must be sturdy and able to resist wind and rain, frost and snow, and provide shade.

III. Activity environment

1. Duck beach

Besides resting in the duck house every night, ducks need enough activity during the large amount of daytime, foraging and playing everywhere. Therefore, there will be an open-air activity area. Generally, choose a place about 100 m up from the river beach, and use protective netting to enclose an area that can hold all the ducks. Note that it should be more spacious, not crowded. The duck beach can be chosen in a large fenced orchard, where the fruit trees can provide shade for resting, fallen fruit can be eaten, and the weeds and insects growing in the orchard can meet their foraging needs.

2. Water area

This means enclosing a water area on the river beach for ducks to swim. Ducks like to move in water, which can enhance disease resistance. However, the water area should be in the downstream area and must not pollute the water source. For mountain and field breeding, a pond can be set up. The size of the water area is determined by conditions, but it is best if the water surface is broad. Note that it should be closer to the duck beach and duck house, and a connecting passage can be set up; otherwise, the ducks are likely to scatter when returning to the house, making management difficult.

The main things to note when building a duck house are the above. I believe friends who have read this far certainly already understand what to pay attention to. So I will not say too much here. If our content has helped you, please continue to follow our updates.
