Lateral line

All fish have a sensory organ called the "lateral line." A series of scales with small pores or micropores runs along both sides of the fish's body, looking like a row of small dots. These pores open into a tube beneath the scales, and the tube runs along both sides of the fish's body. Inside the tube are many hair cells connected to nerve fibers, which transmit stimuli to the spinal cord and then to the brain.

Any movement of the fluid in the lateral line tube will stimulate the hair cells, therebyKoisensing vibrations in the water. These vibrations may come from the reflections of other fish, from obstacles, or even from the sound of human footsteps

Muscles

All vertebrates have three basic forms of muscle: smooth muscle, mostly distributed in the walls of arteries and large veins and in the intestinal wall responsible for moving food; cardiac muscle; and striated muscle, which is related to movement and attaches to bones via tendons. In fish, this muscle forms a series of W-shaped muscle blocks called the great lateral muscle, which wraps around the fish's body and generates thrust during movement.
