The charm of Hi Utsuri

As one of the three great generals of Utsurimono, Hi Utsuri as a whole has a complete body color made up of red and black. Hi Utsuri is a very common type among Utsuri koi, and is also an ordinary variety within the koi group. Its unique color and pattern features make it very easy to recognize and identify.

An ordinary Hi Utsuri koi is entirely crimson red over its whole body, with part of the red having a luster, so that from a distance it gleams with silvery scales; the head has large black markings, and at the dorsal fin red patches and black patches alternate, spreading outward in a radial pattern, with a streamlined shape that is very graceful and smooth; black spots generally appear at the pectoral fins, but often in a form that overlaps with the red patches; the pattern form on the tail fin echoes the pectoral fins, and the distribution of color and the direction of the texture coexist harmoniously. When this kind of rich, heavy color appears on fins so thin they are nearly transparent, the visual impact it gives is often very strong.
