Kin-Kawari belongs to the Hikari-utsuri koi group and is a crossbreed of Ki-utsuri or Hi-utsuri with the Ogon koi. It is a fish with a vivid and very beautiful appearance.
People love koi not only because of their colorful, beautiful and elegant body colors, but also because they symbolize "good fortune and longevity," abundance year after year ("yu" sounding like "surplus"), many offspring and much wealth, and "harmony brings wealth."
Kin-Kawari is mainly distributed in China, Japan, Germany and other countries. It adapts to temperate and cold climates, tolerates water temperatures of 20-30°C, a pH of 7.2 —7.5 (slightly alkaline), and low-hardness water. It has weak territoriality and a gentle nature.
It is omnivorous and easy to keep, accepting all kinds of food without hesitation. Animal-based foods can include water fleas and tubifex worms, while plant-based foods can include duckweed, planktonic algae, and artificial pellet feed. It is a strong swimmer and reproduces by laying eggs.

As a type of Hikari-utsuri koi, Kin-Kawari has a bold, imposing body shape, with sumi (black) patches covering its body. The black is of excellent quality and glossy, while the base color is golden yellow or crimson, shining brightly and looking very beautiful. The scales covering its body are like those of the Ogon koi, arranged neatly and in order.
"Kin-Kawari" is named by combining "Kin" (gold) with "Kawari." However, most current "Kin-Kawari" have a crimson base color, so it would seem more reasonable to name them "Kin-Hi-utsuri." For some unknown reason, they are all uniformly called "Kin-Kawari."
