KoiBiologically they belong to the family Cyprinidae. Worldwide there are more than 3,700 species in 210 genera of cyprinids. They are a high-grade ornamental fish popular around the world today, praised as "living gems in the water" and "swimming works of art."
The largest producer of koi is Japan, which has large numbers of high-quality, pure-bloodline koi that are sought after by enthusiasts in many countries.

▲1Tips: Article 12 of the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine stipulates that the owner or its agent shall, before or at the time of entry of animals, plants, animal and plant products and other quarantine objects, present quarantine certificates from the exporting country or region, trade contracts and other documents, and report to the animal and plant quarantine authority at the port of entry for inspection.
According to Document Zhi Jian Dong Han [2016] No. 138, koi imported from Japan shall come from farms registered with the Animal and Plant Quarantine Department of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine's Measures for the Supervision and Administration of Inspection and Quarantine of Imported Aquatic Animals came into force in September 2016, and was formulated to prevent the introduction of aquatic animal diseases into China and to protect the safety of fishery production, human health and the ecological environment.
According to the Administration's Measures for the Supervision and Administration of Inspection and Quarantine of Imported Aquatic Animals, the consignee of imported aquatic animals or its agent shall apply for a quarantine permit in accordance with relevant regulations.
The consignee of imported aquatic animals for breeding, farming and ornamental purposes, or its agent, shall apply for a quarantine permit with the inspection and quarantine department in the locality of the designated isolation facility; before applying, it shall obtain a use permit for the isolation facility in accordance with the provisions of the Measures for the Supervision and Administration of the Use of Isolation and Quarantine Facilities for Imported Animals.
Therefore, koi imported from Japan shall enter the designated isolation facilities on the above list for 30 days of isolation and quarantine, and under suitable water temperature conditions samples shall be taken by the supervising inspection and quarantine department, with sampling carried out in accordance with the annual aquatic animal monitoring plan.
After passing inspection and quarantine,Japanese koimust enter designated farms and undergo at least one monitoring cycle at a suitable natural water temperature; only after passing monitoring for koi herpesvirus disease and spring viraemia of carp may they be allowed to be produced and sold.
Note: It should be explained that the above "approved for entry" refers to traditional general trade channels; individual carrying, mailing and cross-border e-commerce channels still follow the provisions of the Catalogue of Animals, Plants and Their Products Prohibited from Being Carried or Mailed into China of the People's Republic of China.
