Whenever any fish species is crossbred, new varieties are bound to appear, and the most striking manifestation is the difference in body color and markings. It may combine the strengths of the crossed varieties and become an outstanding specimen among fish, or it may inherit some of the weaknesses and perhaps not be quite so pleasing to the eye, but its uniqueness is what makes it unforgettable.

Koromo Sanshoku koi are produced by mating Aikoromo koi with Showa Sanshoku koi. Sanshoku, as the name suggests, is composed of three colors, but it retains Showa's inherent white and red, and this third color is the blue of Aikoromo koi. It is precisely this soft, gentle touch of blue that makes people feel it is like mist, like rain, and like wind - faint, speckled, seeming to exist and yet not, the blue exudes a captivating charm that makes people stop and admire it.
Some Koromo Sanshoku koi seem to have a somewhat deeper shade of that blue coat, which inevitably brings to mind Arab maidens draped in just such a dark veil, graceful in the hearts of so many seekers of mystery. Its mystery always tempts people to want to know what kind of beauty lies beneath that veil.
