Key points for sow feeding and management

Pig farming is a farming project with a very long history in China. There are many pig breeds, and basically every breed has a certain market. When raising pigs, the management of sows is very important. The quality of sow management directly affects the reproductive capacity and nursing ability of sows. So how should sows be managed during farming? Below, the editor brings you the key points for sow feeding and management. Let's take a look!

1. Feeding management

Feeding is very important for the growth of sows. Meeting the nutritional needs of sows is the key to ensuring the normal growth of sows and piglets. The nutrients sows obtain from feed each day must first be supplied for the growth of piglets, then for their own needs, and must also provide sufficient nutrition for lactation. Therefore, when feeding, we must not only provide enough energy and protein, but also ensure sufficient minerals and other nutrients. Then, do not feed moldy, toxic or other feed, and do not change feed at will. It is best to feed more frequently but in smaller amounts.

2. Farrowing management

According to incomplete statistics, about 70% of sows give birth at night. But when farrowing occurs at night, management is relatively difficult. Many pig farmers cause more piglet injuries and deaths because of improper management. If the farrowing time of sows can be appropriately adjusted to daytime, it is more conducive to management and can improve the survival rate of piglets. Therefore, during the farrowing period of sows, we can use drugs such as cloprostenol to induce farrowing, and the side effects are not very high.

3. Cold protection and warmth

In winter, the temperature is very low, so doing a good job of cold protection and warmth for sows is very important, to prevent the temperature from being too low, causing sows to catch cold, reducing production capacity and the survival rate of piglets. The farrowing room for sows must be kept sufficiently dry, with humidity controlled at around 70%. Then ensure sufficient light and good wind protection. But while keeping warm, ventilation work also needs to be done well to improve the air quality in the pig house. One week before the sow gives birth, use caustic soda water and other substances to carry out a comprehensive disinfection of the pig house. Then 5 days before, drive the farrowing sow into the farrowing room and prepare various farrowing tools.

4. Increase milk production

The secretion of sow milk production is determined by the feed and the sow's eating method. Starting on the second day after the sow gives birth, appropriately increase the feed until the fifth day, when it is increased to the daily feeding amount. The main thing is not to let the sow eat too full at one time, to prevent affecting gastrointestinal function. When the sow enters the peak lactation period, increase the sow's feed intake to about 6 kg. About three days before the piglets are weaned, reduce the feed by about half. After the sow gives birth, pay attention to controlling the feed well, with the main goal of increasing the sow's milk production, to ensure the piglets have sufficient breast milk.

The above is a brief introduction to the key points of sow feeding and management. The feeding and management work for sows is very important, directly affecting the reproductive capacity of sows and the growth of piglets, so everyone must pay more attention. That is all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only, and I hope it can help everyone!
