Key Points and Precautions for Gamecock Rearing and Management Techniques
The gamecock is an ancient and rare chicken breed in China. It has a mighty and robust appearance and is naturally pugnacious. It is a unique rare poultry breed in China and often appears in some tourism projects. At present, the number of gamecocks in China is relatively limited, and it is a rather neglected breed for farming. So how should gamecock rearing and management be carried out? Let's learn about it together.

1. Chick rearing
Chicks are the most critical stage in gamecock rearing. Newly hatched chicks have strict requirements for the rearing environment. Generally, 1-2 day old chicks should be kept in an environment of 35-36 degrees. As their age increases, the temperature should be gradually lowered until it is kept constant at 25 degrees. The humidity in the coop during the chick stage is best kept at 60-70%, and then the humidity should be gradually reduced. Too high or too low humidity will affect the normal growth of chicks. Before starting to feed, first give clean warm boiled water, which can be added with some white sugar or glucose. After 1-2 weeks, they can drink tap water. On the second day after hatching, feed can be given, but it should be soaked in water before feeding to promote digestion. Feeding should be done in small amounts and frequent meals.
2. Rearing of growing chickens
When chicks are 45 days old, reach a body weight of 0.5 kg, and males and females are easy to distinguish, they can then be raised in separate groups by sex, which is beneficial to growth. Starting from 75 days of age, the chicks will grow rapidly, and at this time the content of feed for bone growth should be increased. At this stage, male chicks enter the growing phase. In order to avoid fighting each other and affecting growth, they should be raised individually in cages and released outside the cage 3-4 times a day at fixed times for activity, but they must not mate with hens, and fights with other male chickens should also be controlled. This period is the fastest growth period for gamecocks, so the feed must ensure sufficient and comprehensive nutrition. Also note that sunlight, exercise, and drinking water are all indispensable.
3. Rearing of adult chickens
After molting 3-4 times, they are adult chickens, generally at 9 months of age. At this time, cold and heat differ, so corresponding management measures should be taken according to seasonal changes. After the Beginning of Spring, meat feed should be removed and body weight controlled so that the chickens become firm and solid in condition for fighting. In summer, when the temperature is high and hot, cooling and heatstroke prevention measures should be taken well, less meat feed should be fed, the proportion of green feed should be increased, and soybean products should be appropriately fed. Autumn is exactly the molting period, so high-protein feed should be fed to promote molting. In winter, cold protection and warmth preservation measures should be taken well, and more cooked food and good food should be fed to seize the time to gain fat so as to help them pass the winter.
