How to improve pig herd resistance in spring

Pig farmers all know that spring is a period of high disease incidence. At this time, pigs grow slowly and have weak resistance, making them highly susceptible to diseases, so improving pig herd resistance in spring deserves great attention. So what measures should be taken? Let's take a look together.

1. Raise the temperature of the pig house

Although temperatures are rising in spring, they are extremely unstable, and with more rainy days, the temperature is still relatively low, so the first step is to raise the temperature of the pig house. Open-style pig houses can be covered with plastic film, preferably double-layer plastic film; this method is suitable for finishing pig houses and non-lactating pig houses. If it is a sealed pig production facility, a boiler heating system can be used, or heaters and electric heaters, which are very suitable for lactating pig houses.

2. Improve the feed level

Many nutrients are closely related to the development of a pig's immune system. For example, vitamins and trace elements are essential substances for the synthesis of antibodies by lymphocytes. If they are lacking, they will have a negative impact on the immune system, so the nutritional content of the feed must be guaranteed. In addition, feeding methods should also be adjusted: feed dry feed and provide clean warm water; if feeding wet feed, mix it with clean warm water to ensure the feed temperature. After eating, clean the trough promptly to prevent the feed from becoming moldy, and a mold inhibitor can be added.

3. Strengthen ventilation

When the temperature is low, the pig house remains closed for a long time, the air cannot be replaced in time, and toxic gases in the air gradually increase, which in severe cases can cause poisoning. Therefore, windows should be opened regularly every day for ventilation to expel toxic gases and ensure healthy growth of the pig herd.

4. Do a good job of hygiene and disinfection

The pig house should be cleaned and disinfected frequently. For disinfection, iodine preparations and ammonia preparations or high-efficiency disinfectants can be used, or 20% lime milk or 2% caustic soda can be sprinkled for disinfection. Conventional disinfectants for pen houses should be changed once a week, adjusted according to specific conditions. Feeding troughs are generally disinfected 2-3 times a week. Disinfection pools and disinfection mats should be set up at the entrances and exits of the pig house, and they should be replaced in time. People entering and leaving must strictly follow disinfection measures.
