Xinghua Chicken Farming Techniques

Xinghua chicken, also known as Mizi chicken, has the characteristics of strong disease resistance, wide adaptability, cold tolerance and heat tolerance. It is simpler to raise than ordinary chickens and can bring good economic benefits to farmers. So how should Xinghua chickens be raised? Let's find out together.

1. Rearing Methods

Xinghua chickens are generally raised in three ways: floor rearing, pen-surface rearing and net-cage rearing. These three methods require little investment and low labor, but during the rainy season, work must be done well to prevent dampness and to deal with wet and dirty litter, so as to avoid inducing parasitic diseases and respiratory diseases. In addition, attention should be paid to stocking density during rearing. Excessive density hinders the chickens' growth, is unfavorable for heat dissipation during high-temperature periods, and will cause the flock to become listless and have a greater chance of falling ill. Generally, 6 chickens are raised per sq m.

2. Feeding Methods

Generally, feeding is needed twice a day, and the amount fed each time should not exceed one third of the feeding trough, because what is usually left after the flock picks out the food is some fine powder feed. This powder feed generally contains relatively low levels of vitamins and amino acids. If unfinished leftover feed accumulates in the feeding trough, it is very likely to cause a deficiency of some nutrient in the chickens' bodies, so special attention should be paid during feeding. The feed for breeding chickens is mainly dry powder feed, and pelleted feed should not be used. This is because pelleted feed is high in nutrients, the flock will eat it all first, and then there will be no feed to eat at other times, leading to phenomena such as feather pecking, vent pecking and egg pecking.

3. Sufficient Drinking Water

Drinking water is also an essential nutrient for chicken growth. When chickens lack nutrients, their digestive system will be impaired, blood viscosity will increase, and body temperature will rise, which has a great impact on their growth and egg production. If water is withheld for one day, the egg production of chickens will drop by one fifth, and it is not easy to recover, so providing sufficient clean drinking water is a key measure to ensure healthy growth and high production of chickens. Drinking water utensils should also be cleaned multiple times every day and disinfected at least 1-2 times per week to ensure that the drinking water is clean and hygienic and to avoid disease occurrence.

4. Suitable Lighting

During the breeding season of Xinghua chickens, sufficient lighting must be ensured. The suitable daily lighting duration is 14-16 hours. The daily lighting duration must not be reduced, and it should be appropriately increased according to the condition of the flock. If lighting is stopped for one night, the egg production of Xinghua chickens will decrease, and it will take at least one week to recover. If the switching between power supply and lighting cannot be guaranteed, it is best not to carry out artificial supplemental lighting.
