Grass Carp Farming Techniques

Grass carp is a freshwater fish with a very wide distribution range in our country. The meat of grass carp is very tender, and it has few or even no small bones, making it a fish that many people enjoy eating. Grass carp grows very quickly and offers high economic returns, making it one of the fish species with the largest farming area in our country. So how should grass carp farming be done? Below, the editor brings you the farming techniques for grass carp. Let's take a look!

1. Site Selection and Pond Construction

The first step in farming grass carp is to choose a good plot of land to build a pond. There must be sufficient water around the pond, and the water quality must be clean enough and free of pollution. Then, control the pond area according to the farming scale, keep the water level at about 2 m, and control the mud thickness at the bottom of the pond at about 18 cm. In autumn and winter, pond clearing work must be done well, draining the water and leaving it for three weeks. Then, half a month before stocking, fill the pond with water to 15 cm, and splash quicklime over the entire pond for disinfection. If conditions permit, it is best to equip aerators and feeding machines.

2. Fry Stocking

For the fry, choose robust fry with no wounds and no pests or diseases. It is best to mix-culture them with fish such as crucian carp to improve farming returns. Before stocking the fry, disinfect the fry by soaking all of them in salt water for about 8 minutes. This avoids carrying pathogens that could affect the growth of grass carp. Also note that the stocking proportion of grass carp should remain above 80%, and the number of other mixed-cultured fish should not be too large, to avoid competing for grass carp feed, causing insufficient nutrition for grass carp and affecting their growth.

3. Feeding Management

The bait for grass carp is mainly pellet feed, and the size of the pellet feed should be controlled according to the body size of the grass carp. The protein content of the feed should be controlled at about 30%, and it should be fed together with green feed. When feeding the bait, pay attention to fixed timing, fixed quantity, and fixed location, feeding about twice a day to ensure the nutritional needs of grass carp are met. Also, the same bait should not be fed for a long time. After feeding pellet feed for about two weeks, stop feeding it and switch to feeding raw grain for one week. Finally, pay attention to the nutritional elements of the bait, and add an appropriate amount of substances such as vitamins to enhance the growth capacity of grass carp.

4. Regulating Water Quality

Water quality is very important to the growth of grass carp, so we should carry out aeration work regularly every day. Usually at around two o'clock in the afternoon, and also try to aerate every evening. If there is prolonged cloudy and rainy weather, then aeration work should be strengthened. Change the pond water regularly to maintain water quality. When changing the pond water, first drain part of the water, then inject new water. The frequency of water changes should be controlled according to seasonal changes. In summer, water needs to be added about once every 4 days, with each addition of about 12 cm. Finally, disinfection should also be carried out regularly to improve the quality of the farming environment.

The above is a brief introduction to grass carp farming techniques. During the farming process, we should also pay attention to doing a good job in pest and disease prevention and control. This avoids unnecessary losses that harm our farming returns. That is all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only, and we hope it can help everyone!
