Precautions for Betta Fish Farming

When people talk about betta fish, the first thing most of them think of is the very popular betta live-streaming platform of recent years. In fact, the betta is also a kind of fish with strong ornamental value, often kept as an ornamental fish. At present, bettas are farmed in many places in our country, such as the three northeastern provinces, Beijing, Anhui, Zhejiang, Qinghai and other places. So do you know what issues need attention when farming bettas? Then let me briefly introduce them to you here today.

1. Water quality

Bettas have relatively high requirements for water quality. In general, it is best to change the water in the breeding pond about every six days, and to disinfect it once about every ten to fifteen days. Next, the water used for farming is best with moderate acidity and alkalinity; of course, a PH value between 6.5 and 7.2 is also suitable for farming. Also, although bettas are not afraid of hypoxia, the oxygen content in the water is best at around 5mg/l, and attention should be paid to toxic substances in the water, such as ammonia nitrogen, and the water quality should be adjusted in time. If the ammonia nitrogen content exceeds the standard, it will cause betta poisoning and death.

2. Temperature

Bettas do not have strict requirements for water temperature, but what should be noted is that the water temperature cannot fluctuate greatly; uneven water temperature will cause betta death. In general, bettas can survive in water temperatures between 20 and 30 degrees, but the optimal growth temperature is 24 to 27 degrees. Also, when the water temperature is too low, we should carry out unified temperature control treatment, using artificial temperature control equipment to keep the farm warm; at the same time, when the temperature is too high, cooling treatment is needed to keep the temperature balanced and unchanged.

3. Light

The growing environment of bettas needs sufficient light, but many novice farmers ignore this issue, thinking that direct sunlight in the farm means the light in the farm is sufficient and there is no need to adjust the light. During the farming process, if the light is too strong, we need to provide appropriate shade to avoid the water temperature rising, but if it is an indoor farm, we need to use methods such as planting aquatic plants for photosynthesis.

4. Management

Large-scale betta farming management is actually quite difficult, because bettas are aggressive, so the first thing we need to do is group management and reasonably allocate the male-to-female ratio of bettas, which can reduce betta fights. Next, the feed for bettas should not be single; it is best to feed a diversified diet, such as using earthworms, yellow mealworms, water fleas, bloodworms and other insects or protein feeds together. Also, bettas generally need to be fed three times a day, the feed amount should be reasonably controlled, and after the bettas finish eating, the feed residue should be promptly removed. Finally, pay attention to the prevention and control of diseases and insect pests. During ordinary feeding, observe the growth of the bettas more and treat problems promptly when found.

The several precautions above are relatively common in the farming process. Of course, there are also some other more unusual issues that need attention. Due to my limited energy, I will not explain them to you in detail here. If you are interested, you can comment below.
