Precautions for Raising Turkeys

The turkey is a very valuable species of wild fowl, and there is a certain amount of turkey farming in China. Turkey meat is very tender, has a very low fat content, and is rich in nutrients; it is effective for treating deficiency-cold of the spleen and stomach and weakness of the waist and knees in humans. However, the method of raising turkeys is different from that of ordinary chickens, and there are many points to pay attention to in turkey farming. Below, the editor brings you the precautions for raising turkeys, so let's take a look!

1. Temperature

Turkeys have relatively high temperature requirements, with different temperature requirements at different growth stages. For example, for poults (baby turkeys) in the first seven days after hatching, the temperature should be controlled at around 35 degrees, and then it needs to be lowered by about 1-2 degrees every week. This continues until the temperature drops to around 20 degrees. If the temperature is too high, the poults will increase their water intake and show symptoms such as loose droppings and difficulty breathing. If the temperature is too low, the poults' feathers will become ruffled, they will make shrill cries, and they will catch cold and get sick. So we must control the temperature according to weather changes, appropriately increase the temperature in winter, and do a good job of cooling in summer.

2. Ventilation

The air quality in the chicken house also has a great impact on the growth of turkeys. If the air quality is too poor, with insufficient oxygen and high ammonia content, it will weaken the turkeys' constitution, increase the incidence of disease, and cause turkey poisoning. Moreover, many farmers neglect ventilation when doing insulation work. This leads to a decline in the air quality in the chicken house, and the turkeys show various adverse phenomena such as restlessness, reduced vitality, and poor appetite; their disease resistance also decreases, and various diseases such as respiratory diseases appear. So while doing a good job of insulation, we must also pay attention to strengthening ventilation to improve air quality.

3. Light

Light plays a very important role in promoting the growth of turkeys. Suitable light can increase the appetite of young turkeys and promote the metabolism of turkeys. It ensures the growth of turkeys and prolongs their lives. Especially during the first three days after hatching, the poults' eyesight is very poor at this stage, so in order to ensure they can eat and drink normally, the poult house must maintain light whether it is day or night. We should install light bulbs evenly according to the area of the chicken house, so that light can be provided normally at night.

4. Humidity

Humidity is also an important factor in ensuring the normal growth of turkeys. When raising turkeys, we should control the humidity of the chicken house at around 58%-62%. Try to avoid going outside this range. If the humidity is too low, the absorption of the yolk by the turkeys will be hindered, and their water intake will increase. Drinking too much water will lead to adverse phenomena such as diarrhea in turkeys, a decreased rate of feather growth, and dull plumage. If the humidity is too high, it will cause the turkeys' feathers to become messy and disordered, their appetite to decrease, and the incidence of disease will also increase greatly.

We should do a good job of environmental regulation according to the surrounding environment and the actual growth situation of the turkeys, create a good growth environment for them, enhance their growth ability, and improve farming benefits.
