Remove any moldy or spoiled straw and crush it (it must be crushed or chopped; otherwise, if it is too coarse, the straw fiber content will be too high and yellow mealworms will not like to eat it)

Materials: 200 kg straw powder, 1 kg straw fermentation bacterial liquid, 20 kg cornmeal or wheat bran as nutrients, 0.5 kg brown sugar, 200 g salt

1. After the materials are ready, mix the fermentation bacterial liquid evenly with the crushed straw, cornmeal, brown sugar water, and salt. Control the moisture content at around 50%. How to judge: grab a handful of the material; water should be visible between the fingers but should not drip, and it should fall apart when dropped to the ground. Too much water makes it hard to heat up, while too little water makes fermentation difficult.

2. Seal for fermentation. If the amount is small, it can be put into bags or bottles, pressing it down slightly; there is no need to press it too firmly. If the amount is large, a stacking method can be used, with a height of about 50 cm and length and width as desired. At the same time, cover it well with plastic film and seal it for fermentation.

3. Fermentation time: in summer, it generally ferments for 1-2 days; in winter, it needs to ferment for about 3 days (specifically refer to the fermentation appearance of the straw powder).

4. Done. When the straw powder gradually turns yellow and gives off a vinous aroma, it indicates that fermentation is basically complete. If the stacking method is used, the covering can be removed, then cool and dry it; or it can be left in place, and after sealing well, the feed can be taken as needed.

Using fermented straw to make yellow mealworm feed is a simple process, and the feed is nutritionally complete and highly palatable. It can increase the appetite of yellow mealworms, promote digestion and absorption, thereby increasing feed intake, making them grow quickly and get sick less often, greatly improving the economic benefits of yellow mealworm breeding.

At the same time, it should be noted that fermented straw feed is only one type of yellow mealworm feed. It can be fed together with green feed, wheat bran, and other feeds. The proportion of fermented feed can gradually increase from less to more during the feeding process. Considering nutrient intake, it is recommended to add up to 60%-70% for best results.
