(1) Research on the Application of Black Soldier Fly Larvae in Pig Feed

1. Research on the Application of Black Soldier Fly Larvae in Finishing Pig Feed

Dried black soldier fly larva meal can be used in piglet and finishing pig feed. Pigs showed no rejection feeding behavior toward feed containing dried black soldier fly larva meal; moreover, the feed intake of feed containing dried black soldier fly larva meal was significantly higher than that of soybean meal feed without additional supplemental oil (P<0.05);与其他饲料组相比,含黑水虻饲料的粗脂肪消化率显著提高(P<0.05)。

2. Research on the Application of Black Soldier Fly Larvae in Weaned Piglet Feed

When amino acid balance was not performed, after black soldier fly larva meal replaced 50% of dried plasma protein powder, piglets showed relatively good growth performance effects in phase 1 (weight gain increased by 4%, feeding efficiency increased by 9%); when black soldier fly larva meal replaced 100% of dried plasma protein powder, regardless of whether amino acids were balanced, the growth performance of piglets in phase 2 declined compared with the control group (production performance decreased by 3-13%). It is recommended that black soldier fly larva meal be used in combination with early-weaned piglet concentrate or formulated insect protein meal for feeding, which can effectively improve animal disease resistance and reduce the probability of diarrhea.

3. Research on the Application of Black Soldier Fly Larvae in Growing Piglet Feed

Defatting black soldier fly larva meal leads to a decrease in the apparent digestibility of dry matter and organic matter, but does not affect the apparent digestibility of N; the sex of experimental pigs had no significant effect on the apparent ileal digestibility of amino acids in the experimental feed (P>0.05). For feed supplemented with 75-100% black soldier fly larva meal, piglets fed it showed no gastric lesion occurrence, or only mild gastric lesions were observed.

(2) Research on the Application of Black Soldier Fly Larvae in Chicken broiler/hen Feed

1. Research on the Application of Black Soldier Fly Larvae in Broiler Feed

Black soldier fly larva meal can serve as a high-quality source of protein, metabolizable energy and digestible amino acids for broiler feed. Adding black soldier fly larva meal to feed can improve broiler production performance.

Initial-stage experiments found that the quality of full-fat black soldier fly larva meal is close to that of fish meal; compared with the all-fish-meal group feed, black soldier fly larva feed containing 22% and 37% fat had no significant effect on body weight, weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, body loss and benefit indicators of broilers (initial-stage 10-day growth period) (P>0.05). Except for crude fat (ether extract), there was no significant difference in the total apparent digestibility of nutrients between the two insect larva meal feeds (P>0.05); the total apparent digestibility of crude fat was significantly higher for black soldier fly larvae than for yellow mealworm (P<0.001)。与对照组相比,饲料中添加黑水虻幼虫粉对成活率、体重、增重、采食量和饲料系数无显著影响(P>0.05); however, it can increase the dressing percentage, abdominal fat, leg muscle, breast muscle and back muscle, as well as the unsaturated fatty acid content in breast muscle, and reduce saturated fatty acid content (P>0.05).

2. Research on the Application of Black Soldier Fly Larvae in Laying Hen Feed

Compared with the control group, adding black soldier fly larvae to feed can improve egg-laying performance (P>0.05); the feed intake of the group supplemented with 12% black soldier fly larva feed increased (P>0.05); however, there was no significant effect on the health status of laying hens (P>0.05).

(3) Research on the Application of Black Soldier Fly Larvae in Quail quail Feed

1. Research on the Application of Black Soldier Fly Larvae in Meat Quail Feed

Black soldier fly larva meal can partially replace soybean meal and soybean oil in the feed of quail during the growing period; there were no significant differences among experimental groups in the apparent digestibility of dry matter, crude protein, starch, feeding preference and energy (P>0.05); there were no significant differences among experimental groups in the microbial composition of excreta, breast muscle weight and egg production (P>0.05); production performance, mortality and carcass traits all met commercial standards, with no significant differences among experimental groups (P>0.05).

2. Research on the Application of Black Soldier Fly Larvae in Laying Quail Feed

Partial replacement of fish meal with black soldier fly larva meal can have a significant effect on feed intake, feed efficiency and egg weight (P<0.05),对产蛋量影响不显著(P>0.05); the feed consumption for egg production of quail in the 100% black soldier fly larva meal group was lower than that in the 100% fish meal group. Compared with the control group, quail fed feed containing black soldier fly larvae showed better production performance and egg-laying performance. Feeding quail with 25% black soldier fly larvae + 75% commercial feed achieved the best growth performance and egg-laying performance effects.
