Winter care taboos for kalanchoe: what every gardener must know
Kalanchoe is actually Christmas kalanchoe (Kalanchoe blossfeldiana). This flower has many varieties and many colors, and with "Christmas" in its name, it must be a fairly popular flower at this time of year. But friends may not know that this flower is not cold-tolerant. If you don't care for it well in winter, it may not even bloom. So what exactly should you pay attention to in winter? Take a look.
Temperature must not be too low
As mentioned earlier, this plant is not able to tolerate low temperatures, so friends in the north must put them indoors in winter. The temperature they require is 12-15°C. If the temperature is too low, it will affect their blooming time and may delay flowering.
Temperature must not be too high
But friends in the north whose homes have plenty of heating should also pay attention: if the indoor temperature exceeds 24°C, it will also inhibit their blooming. If you want them to keep blooming, it is best to keep it at around 15°C. If the temperature is too high, ventilate promptly, or you can spray water around them, which can both cool them appropriately and increase humidity and replenish moisture.
Light must not be excessive
This red flower does not have high sunlight requirements, and it is quite sensitive to photoperiod, so if you want them to bloom, keeping 8 to 9 hours of sunlight per day is enough. If you can keep this up for about a month, there will be no problem with their growth, and they can basically grow flower buds. If they receive sunlight for a relatively long time, they will be reluctant to bloom, so you must control this.
Pests and diseases must not be ignored
The most common disease of this flower is leaf blight, which is also a disease other flowers are quite prone to. If you notice symptoms, friends must not sit by and do nothing. First, remove the leaves that have already shown symptoms, but do not throw them directly into the flower pot. Then you can spray with an appropriate amount of pesticide, which can thoroughly eliminate this disease and also prevent it from happening again in the near future. If you see scale insects on the stems and leaves, remove the insects. In severe cases, remove the entire leaf, and likewise do not put it in the flower pot. After disposing of the leaves, spray once with dimethoate and that will be enough.
