How to tell the difference between wild crucian carp and farmed crucian carp?

1. Look at the fish's size

Wild crucian carp tend to be fairly small, with short, compact, sturdy bodies, while farmed crucian carp, because they have abundant food resources, generally grow larger and have a gentle temperament.

2. Look at the fish's color

After looking at the size of the crucian carp, the color of the crucian carp is also something we must observe. Wild crucian carp are whitish in color, leaning toward yellow. Farmed crucian carp, however, are blackish in color, and if they are purely artificially raised, then the color is deep black.

3. Look at the fish's body shape

Besides the above two points, the body shape of the crucian carp is also very important. Wild crucian carp have a slender body shape, a relatively round head, swim aggressively, and have a relatively wide tail, while farmed crucian carp do not have these features.

4. Look at the fish's back

Wild crucian carp have a relatively high back with a noticeable hump. Artificially raised crucian carp, because they eat well, have relatively large and loose bellies, and their back hump is not obvious.

5. Look at the color of the fish's gills

Crucian carp raised in artificial environments are certainly given some drugs or even hormones on a regular basis to make the fish grow, and these drugs or hormones will show up on the fish's gills. Compared with wild crucian carp, farmed crucian carp have darker gills with a dull luster.
