What conditions are needed for a pond to raise crayfish with foxtail grass?
Many farmingcrayfishponds raise crayfishby planting Elodea, and under the influence of various factors, farmers deeply feel that Elodea is difficult to control in many ways, which leads to difficult water quality management, crayfish farmingdifficulty in observing the process, and they call this the "three difficulties" phenomenon.
In production practice, some farmers have created a cultivation method of raising crayfish with foxtail grass. Foxtail grass is a single-plant grass family plant with strong adaptability, early germination and rapid growth. It can not only simply control its growth density, but also make it convenient to observe the living state of crayfish at any time in the crayfish farming pond, and it can also increase the recapture rate of crayfish.

So, what conditions are needed for a pond to raise crayfish with foxtail grass?
I. Conditions needed for raising crayfish with foxtail grass in a pond
1. The pond should have sufficient bottom fertilizer or a relatively thick silt layer to ensure sufficient nutrients for the growth of foxtail grass. In addition, the pond bottom should be as level as possible to ensure uniform water depth, which is conducive to the germination and growth of foxtail grass.
2. The drainage and irrigation system should be complete, able to both drain and irrigate, and prevent drought and waterlogging.
3. The pond depth should be about 1.5 m, and the farming pond area is best if it is slightly larger - a deep-water large pond has a large water capacity and more sufficient dissolved oxygen.
II. Sowing and management
1. How to sow
(1) Sowing period: February to August
(2) Sowing amount: 3 to 6 jin/mu, adjust the sowing amount according to the germination rate of foxtail grass. By doing a germination experiment, you can both identify the quality of the foxtail grass seed and grasp the sowing amount well.
(3) Sowing method: before sowing, first drain the pond water, then evenly broadcast the foxtail grass seed or the foxtail grass seed that has undergone germination acceleration treatment in the place where it should be planted. Generally, the area planted with foxtail grass in a crayfish pond only accounts for 60% of the whole pond, with each 6 m width as one row and a row spacing of 4 m.
After sowing, scrape on a layer of silt as much as possible to prevent bird damage. If foxtail grass is planted by the transplanting method, transplanting can generally be carried out when the foxtail grass seedlings grow to 20 cm.
2. Management of foxtail grass
In terms of management, the main thing is to prevent drought and waterlogging, and ensure that the pond bottom is often moist or has a small amount of shallow water (there must not be too much accumulated water). During the growth process, water should be added or drained in time according to the growth status of the foxtail grass, to prevent the foxtail grass from being drowned by excessively high accumulated water or from lodging and dying due to drought caused by too shallow a water level.
Crayfish farming must be considered from the growth environment and needs of crayfish. The living environment determines production output, also determines the quality of crayfish, and at the same time even more determines the management techniques of the manager. With so-called "high input paired with high output", whether many agricultural products have a bumper harvest or not has no direct relationship with high output value! High output value is achieved through continuous improvement of ideas and concepts and technological innovation. Therefore, it requires our agricultural people to make all-round "one reform", establish new methods and new technologies, and only through many aspects can it be obtained! May all agricultural people have both a bumper harvest and a good income!
