How to prevent and treat diarrhea in Muscovy ducks during the late stage of rearing?
At present, China's duck farming industry has gradually transitioned from a small-scale rural family sideline to large-scale commercial production. At the same time, because of changes in rearing methods, the patterns of duck disease occurrence have also changed greatly. Regarding prevention and treatment measures for diarrhea in ducks during the late stage, the author now puts forward several suggestions for colleagues' reference.
Diarrhea caused by the environment In summer, high temperatures increase ducks' water intake, leading to a reduction in intestinal flora; stress from rain, thunderstorms and lightning; excessive stocking density; poor ventilation; inadequate heat relief and cooling; and excessive ammonia odor indoors can all cause diarrhea in ducks. Therefore, during high-temperature weather, good rearing management of the duck flock should be carried out, manure should be cleaned promptly, bedding should be replaced, and fresh clean drinking water should be supplied. At the same time, cod liver oil, vitamin C, etc. should be added to their feed to reduce stress.
Diarrhea caused by disease Diarrhea caused by bacterial diseases includes colibacillosis, serositis, and Clostridium welchii disease, etc. For the treatment of colibacillosis and pullorum disease, ampicillin, cefradine, ciprofloxacin, etc. can be selected; for the treatment of serositis and Clostridium welchii disease, drugs such as rifampicin, sulfadimethoxine, and florfenicol can be selected; for viral diseases such as duck influenza and paramyxovirus disease, prevention should be the starting point, with avian influenza oil vaccine inoculated at 7 days of age and Newcastle disease vaccine inoculated at 14 days of age.

Diarrhea caused by feed Improper storage of feed easily causes mold, and ducks that eat moldy feed will develop diarrhea. A mold remover (Sumeijian, etc.) can be added to the feed for prevention; if the protein in the feed is too high, it will increase the burden on the duck's kidneys, cause metabolic disorders, and lead to diarrhea, and treatment must promptly clear the kidneys; when the calcium-to-phosphorus ratio is improper and vitamins are deficient, duck diarrhea can also be caused, and the feed formula should be adjusted promptly.
Diarrhea caused by drugs When the dosage of multivitamins is too large, it can cause diarrhea in ducks, and the dosage should be adjusted promptly; for diarrhea caused by drug poisoning, the liver and kidneys should be protected (Shenganbao), and the kidneys should be cleared and diuresis promoted; for diarrhea caused by continuous medication, the intestinal flora should be adjusted by adding Bacillus and probiotics (Sumeijian), while antibiotics should also be used in combination to prevent secondary infection. During medication, proceed from low sensitivity to high sensitivity, from single-drug use to compound preparations, formulate a reasonable medication program, and select veterinary drugs produced by manufacturers with a good reputation.
