Throughout history, records of goldfish being raised in our country go back a long way and have deep roots. As early as the Southern Song period, keeping goldfish in courtyards in the imperial palace and the mansions of high officials and nobles was already widely popular. At that time, goldfish were only a high-end pet for the imperial family and nobility, and could not yet enter the homes of ordinary people. With social development and the steady rise in people's living standards, goldfish keeping spread to countless households, and in modern times it has become a popular pet.

Home goldfish keeping is generally divided into three types according to form and location: courtyard-style keeping, balcony and rooftop keeping, and aquarium keeping.

Courtyard-style keeping: this means digging a small pond in villa areas and family farms to keep goldfish, pairing it with ornamental stones and planting plants. It not only cultivates the mind and character, but also beautifies the environment and delights the eye.

Balcony and rooftop keeping: generally in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang area, many people use this method. You must first do waterproofing well to prevent pond water from leaking, and set up a sunshade to prevent direct sunlight in summer from making the water temperature too high. At the same time, a storage reservoir and an operating passage should be designed beside the keeping pond.

Aquarium keeping: generally, goldfish enthusiasts are willing to choose aquariums for keeping fish. First, the price is economical and affordable; second, it is convenient for viewing. When the living space at home is not spacious, placing a fish tank in a corner can add a lot of charm to the room.

Also, a bit of an aside: many people who have just started keeping goldfish, because they have no experience, find their goldfish dying for no apparent reason. Here are a few suggestions.

1. Use a large tank. At first, fish keepers often think they will just give it a try and spend a few yuan or a dozen yuan to buy a small fish tank. This kind of tank can only hold a few kilograms of water. When goldfish live in it, it is still all right in winter, but in summer they are extremely prone to dying from oxygen deprivation and suffocation. So from the very beginning, spend a few dozen yuan to buy a large tank that can hold a few dozen kilograms of water for the long term. At the very least, it should be a 60 cm aquarium.

2. Put in fewer fish. Some fish keepers buy a lot of goldfish feed at the start. As a result, these fish are often in a state of oxygen deprivation and gasping at the surface in the aquarium without the keeper knowing, and over time they die from exhaustion after floating for too long. So, for a 60 cm aquarium, in summer 2 goldfish of 6-8 cm are enough, and in winter 4 are enough.

3. Feed less. People who have just started keeping fish always worry that the goldfish are not eating enough, and feed bait several times a day. Goldfish in a state of oxygen deprivation rarely eat, and as a result the leftover bait spoils in the water, further worsening the oxygen deprivation. So when feeding goldfish, you must grasp the principle of feeding little: feed as much as they eat, and do not feed if they do not eat.
