To broaden their paths to prosperity and achieve diversified farming, Huaping County Sasa Agricultural Comprehensive Development Co., Ltd. has taken up specialized sika deer farming and has driven surrounding farming households to achieve diversified income growth. Specialized sika deer farming has become a new path for local villagers to increase their income and get rich, opening a door to prosperity for the local people.

Recently, this writer visited the breeding base, where dozens of sika deer came over at the sound and gave call after call. A few young sika deer, seeing strangers, immediately ran joyfully in circles. "Those few like to fight, so we shut them up to keep them from getting hurt," introduced He Hongyu, head of Sasa Agricultural Comprehensive Development Co., Ltd.

It is understood that the company began farming sika deer in 2015 and now has 102 sika deer. As the sika deer gradually grow, the benefits follow. The company mainly sells velvet antler, deer blood wine and venison, and in 2017 alone it earned more than 200,000 yuan.

Wu Guiquan's family in Group 3 of Hongdi Village raises 7 sika deer. Speaking of the income the sika deer bring the family, Wu Guiquan's wife said with a smile that last year a single sika deer brought in more than 20,000 yuan.

Velvet antler can be cut twice a year, once in May and once in July, and its nutritional value is extremely high. Moreover, when the velvet antler is cut, deer blood also sprays out, and the income is quite considerable.

"Cutting velvet antler is like cutting chives; it grows back after being cut, and velvet antler fetches a good price, sold at 1,800 yuan per jin!" Wu Guiquan's wife said with a smile. After the velvet antler is cut, the blood that flows out can be mixed with baijiu to make deer blood wine, and the deer blood wine is sold at 100 yuan per jin.

He Hongyu said that the farm currently mainly deals in velvet antler, deer blood wine, venison and deer hide, and has not yet formed an industrial chain. He said the company hopes to make the sika deer industry bigger and stronger. Besides running the farm well, the company wants to extend sika deer farming to more surrounding farming households, and through business models such as "enterprise + farming households", let more people take part in sika deer farming and lead the people of the area to prosper through farming. At present, 5 village households have already begun raising sika deer.
