Rural areas are a huge market where you can give free rein to your abilities, and as long as you have what it takes, you can dig up your own first pot of gold. This is also one of the reasons why more and more young people are returning to their hometowns to start businesses. With the drop in prices of the three major staple grains in 2015, which farming projects can actually make money in 2016? Last week, Yunzhongyang compiled for everyone "Crop Varieties That Can Make Money in 2016" (click "Read Original Article" to view). Today we bring you the livestock and poultry varieties that can make money in 2016, for your reference:

Everyday Farming

Raising Beef Cattle

The long-term outlook for the beef cattle market is favorable: as people's living standards continue to improve, demand for beef is growing day by day. Due to factors of rising prices, the tight supply-demand situation for beef will persist, and prices will remain high. China's high-grade fattened beef is very popular in the EU, the United States, Japan, Russia and Middle Eastern countries, and its competitiveness in the world market has clearly strengthened, with huge market potential.

Raising Geese

On the whole, China's goose market is in a state of supply falling short of demand. However, its consumer market is mainly in southern cities such as Guangzhou, Shanghai and Hong Kong, China, while the north still mainly consumes pork, mutton and beef. Regional differences cannot be ignored when developing goose farming.

Raising Pigs

Around May each year is the trough for live hog prices, but overall, live hog prices are on an upward trend. Industry insiders predict that the current hog price upcycle can last at least until June 2016, and at the same time feed costs will decline further, making gross profits very considerable. Pig farmers should seize the business opportunity.

Raising Donkeys

The whole donkey is a treasure, with great value for development and utilization. Donkey hide and donkey meat have high medicinal value and protein nutrition. In recent years, donkey product development has been continuously successful. The Ministry of Agriculture has included research and development projects for commercial donkey technology in its 2016 support and development projects. Donkey farming has enormous market development space in the future. Its advantages are: donkey meat is tender and delicious with high nutrition, and has long enjoyed the reputation of "dragon meat in heaven, donkey meat on earth," with a high market price.

Specialty Farming

Raising Wild Boars

Under artificial farming conditions, green forage can account for 60-70% of the daily ration for wild boars, so farming costs are 30-40% lower than for domestic pigs. They have stronger disease resistance and a higher survival rate, and their meat is tender, fresh and fragrant with a rich gamey flavor, making it highly favored by consumers. The price is several times more expensive than ordinary domestic pork, but it still cannot stop urban residents' desire to try something new. Currently, the number of wild boars raised domestically is relatively small. As a replacement breed for domestic pigs, the market is extremely broad.

Raising Pheasants

The pheasant is currently the most successfully developed famous specialty poultry in China. Affected by SARS and avian influenza, farming numbers dropped sharply. Since last winter, pheasant market prices have continued to rise, and the current market price for commercial pheasants is between 24-35 yuan per kilogram.

Raising Wild Rabbits

Wild rabbit meat has 50% more protein than lean pork and twice that of mutton, while its fat content is only 1/16 that of pork and 1/7 that of mutton. Its cholesterol content is 1/3 that of pork and 2/3 that of chicken and duck meat, so it is highly favored by the market, especially in southern markets. Wild rabbits currently sell for 60-70 yuan each and still fall short of demand, and current domestic production is far from meeting market demand.

Raising Ostriches

The central and western regions are arid and short of water, with many sandy wastelands, while ostriches need to move about on sandy land and mainly eat grass, tolerate coarse feed, and grow quickly, reaching market weight in just one year. Ostrich farming takes advantage of the characteristics of the western region in terms of forage, land, climate and labor, and hits the meeting point between increasing farmers' income and the western region's natural resources. However, although ostrich farming has prospects, large-scale promotion in China has only just begun, and some technical issues still need further improvement.

Raising Wild Geese

Wild geese, also known as wild swan geese, is the general term for the swan goose, greylag goose and bean goose in the duck family, genus Anser. Wild goose meat is sweet and neutral in nature, enters the lung, kidney and liver meridians, and dispels wind-cold. Goose down has good warmth retention and is very light and soft, and can be used as filling material for pillows, cushions, clothing, bedding and so on. The wild goose is a specialty poultry that China has only just begun to domesticate, and is currently in the seedling sales stage. Developing artificial wild goose farming has certain market prospects.

Raising Blue Peafowl

The blue peafowl has great value and room for utilization, with good economic returns. Farmers can develop diversified operations such as ornamental display, specimen making, medicine production and dining. Blue peafowl grow very quickly. After hatching, a peafowl chick carefully raised to 28 days can sell for 100 yuan each, and a small peafowl raised to 10 months can grow into a 5-kilogram commercial peafowl, selling for around 1000 yuan. A peafowl lays an average of 35 eggs per year, and one egg can sell for several dozen yuan.
